Who is this number?

A number that called or texted you, or your own number and how to protect it.

Got the number from an AI assistant or a search result? Say whose it is meant to be: if that business has a verify page, we tell you whether it is one of its official numbers.

Questions people ask

How do I check who a phone number belongs to?

Enter it with its country. We tell you what kind of number it is and whether it comes from a range used for premium-rate or "one ring" scams, and, when connected, what type of line it is.

An AI assistant or a search result gave me a support number. Is it real?

Say who it claimed to be. If that business has an HRS verify page, we tell you whether the number is one of its official numbers. If not, use the number on the business's own website, your card or a letter from them: scammers plant fake support numbers in search results and AI answers.

What is a "one ring" scam?

A call that rings once from an international premium-rate number, so that you call back and pay by the minute. Do not call back.

How do I protect my own number?

Ask your mobile carrier for a port-out or SIM PIN, and use an authenticator app instead of text-message codes where you can.
